2023 DISTINGUISHED MILITARY SERVICE AWARD RECIPIENT

Corporal Ana Paola Rincones Urbina

Ana Paola Rincones Urbina was born and raised in Margarita Island, Venezuela, and immigrated to the United States in 2018. She enlisted in the Marine Corps in April 2020. In November 2020, she reported to Oscar Company, 4th Battalion, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina. Upon completion of recruit training in March 2021, Private First Class Rincones attended Marine Combat Training, School of Infantry at Camp Geiger, North Carolina.

In April 2021, due to an accelerated performance evaluation in her military occupational specialty prior to enlistment, Private First Class Rincones bypassed the Naval School of Music and reported directly to the 1st Marine Division Band, Camp Pendleton, California. Private First Class Rincones served as a Flute Instrumentalist performing in musical ensembles supporting military and civilian ceremonies. In May 2021, she was promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal. In October 2021, she completed naturalization and became a U.S. Citizen. In November 2022, she was promoted to her current rank of Corporal. She currently serves as the Group Commander for the Woodwind Section, Flute Section Leader, and Public Affairs Office Clerk.  

Her personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal. In May of 2023, she was the recipient of the 2023 Major McClung Leadership Award presented by Headquarters Marine Corps. Corporal Rincones holds a Bachelor of Music in Performance from the National University of the Arts and a Master of Music in Performance from Simon Bolivar University in Venezuela. In her personal time, she is an award-winning recording artist, educator, and philanthropist whose efforts support various non-profit organizations. She is married to Yonathan Gavidia who is also a professional percussion player, music producer, and recording artist.
